If it's hard to imagine managing Highland
Cleaners' eleven branch stores without a desk, just ask
Linda Alvey how she does it. "I roam around," she laughed.
Our roaming manager stays busy answering pages and making
sure all of the stores are running correctly and maintaining
everyday duties. She oversees a second district store
manager and all of the branch managers, ensuring that the
stores are staffed properly and that systems and procedures
run smoothly. If someone is sick, Linda fills in. On other
days, she'll visit different stores to see how operations
are moving along. Linda started in Minor Repairs at the main
plant where she worked for about four years. When the
Prospect store opened, Linda took on the role of counter
manager for two years. She has been a district store
manager for many years and she says she likes her roving
status. "I enjoy being able to move around to different
locations and meet the customers. I like the fact that I'm
able to see so many different customers and I'm able to know
all of them."
