Employee Listings / Mae Emma Dennis MAE EMMA DENNIS - LAUNDRY WASHER Like a glistening diamond, Mae Emma Dennis is one of the true gems at Highland Cleaners. The first one here in the morning, her absolute commitment to the company makes her part of the heart and soul of Highland Cleaners. When Louisville was virtually shut down in January 1994 with the huge snowstorm, Mae Emma was waiting on the doorstep at 6:30 a.m. to begin work. She has been with us for over 30 years and, as laundry washer, is responsible for marking in and sorting over 3,000 items a day coming in from eleven different stores. She uses a color system to sort and separate and ensure that each shirt gets the right amount of starch. She says that although she has a lot to keep straight, she enjoys her work. "I like sorting and separating," she said. "I've been doing it all my life." Mae Emma does admit that her favorite part of the day is the "peace and quiet in the early morning." But she also says that while she enjoys the solitude of her job, she likes the people she works with, many of them co-workers for almost 30 years. "I like my friends here," she said. We're really like a family," she said. |
